I can only hope that the CBC decided to air this proposal nationally because they recognized a brilliant piece of satire, rather than because someone in the CBC offices took it seriously.
I mean, wow. Total state control of religion, including a mandatory common set of doctrines to which all faiths would be required to hew, and licensing of religious practitioners.
It’s like the “we had to destroy the village to save it” approach to separation of Church and State. And he says it so reasonably and casually.
Bonus points for carefully proposing a measure (a total ban on ritual circumcision) which would outlaw Judaism without needing to say so explicitly.
