Brother Roger Murdered
Brother Roger, founder of the ecumenical monastic Taize Community in France, was murdered yesterday during evening prayers when a young woman lept from the crowd to stab the frail 90-year-old in the throat. I have to confess unfamiliarity with him or his movement until today, but … wow … what a horrible end for a gentle old man who has apparently quietly done so much for peaceful Christian unity.
I suppose we shall discover more about the woman’s motivations as the story unfolds. Please remember Brother Roger in your prayers.
