Advancing EU Openness
Since its inception, the European Council has met in secret to adopt and (in some cases) propose legislation. Now that the UK presidency has convened, there’s a move on to change matters.
Good on them. As anyone watching the semi-recent European patent legislation fiasco will know, the European Council is plainly the most anti-democratic force in the Union. Although there is no substitute for direct accountability, some transparency in the Council’s activities will certainly help.
