Thermonuclear Lightning
Interesting. It has been postulated that lightning generates thermonuclear reactions in the atmosphere, fusing Deuterium atoms available in atmospheric water (about one in 6800 H2O molecules is actually DHO). Observations of neutron flux during thunderstorms appear to confirm this—there’s some nuclear shakin’ and bakin’ going on.
