Singing Accents
I was listening to Garbage on the World Cafe tonight, and I was struck by the contrast between Shirley Manson’s thick accent in her speaking voice, versus her (nearly) neutral American accent when singing.
It’s not unusual, really, and I more commonly hear that sort of thing with American singers affecting Irish brogues in e.g. celtic music. But, I don’t know. Those sorts of contrasts have always fascinated me.
I often also find myself imagning what a person with a distinctive accent would sound like with an entirely different one.
