New Orleans Flooded

Good grief… just as I thought the Big Easy had made it through this time…

It seems, however, that they lost 200 feet of canal levee, and that was enough. At least 80% of the city is flooded, and the waters are still rising.

This is extra bad, because nearly the whole city lies in a giant basin below the water table (let alone sea level…). The massive pumps that had kept the city dry are underwater; with their failure, Lake New Orleans is now a reality.

Pray that they can evacuate the survivors in time, especially the massive crowd of refugees huddling in the decks of the Superdome as the water rises.
