United 93

I saw United 93 tonight.

There are so many things that it could have gone wrong with a movie like this, but somehow, miraculously, they all went right. It was an exceptionally well-done film.

The film does not idealize the passengers, nor does it demonize the hijackers. It allows them all to be people, letting their actions (and reactions) speak for them.

The film does not attempt to justify or excuse inherently evil acts, nor does it turn into a nationalistic hymn.

The film is not political: it does not rail against The Administration, nor it does not let Bush off the hook.

There are no MovieOS displays. No dazzling fight choreography. No catchphrases.

What it did provide is a healthy reality check, and some badly needed closure.

I’d really recommend seeing it.

Some movies could have been made too soon; this one could easily have been made too late.
