Synfig: 2D Animation Suite
It seems there’s a new Free Software media tool on the block: Synfig. With features like native HDR, resolution-independence and (reportedly) high-quality tweening automation, it focuses on making film-quality 2D animation possible with only minimal staff.
The functionality sounds very nice, though I haven’t had time to actually use it yet. While the UI requirements are necessarily very different, from the screenshots it does look like they could still stand to take some UI cues from Inkscape.
I think this project is worth keeping an eye on.
